La Vaquería Montañesa Madrid

EN:

Good coffee shop interiors create an inviting atmosphere which makes you want to come back there again and again. When a coffee shop turns into our special place, we study there, discuss projects with clients and colleagues, read our favourite literature and meet up with special friends, all  in one place.

A well thought Interior design can also tell stories within spaces. There is a coffee shop in Madrid which do all that and takes you on an international travel in time within it’s walls. Today’s inspiration of a coffee shop, which I found one day while reading the Architectural Digest, has been popping in my mind lately, making me want share it with you – La Vaquería Montañesa in Madrid.

There is something both minimalistic and warm, modern and classic combined in the interior. This coffee shop includes the best of international design mix, all arranged in a subtle, creative way, all with a touching history behind it. Just looking at each element is like reading its history: the marble bar, the Finnish wooden tables designed in the 50s by Ilmari Tapiovaara of Artek, Ton Chairs, handmade one by one in a Czechoslovak village. In La Vaquería Montañesa you can savour the food served in the French dishes of a family of French potters who have been working together since 1857 and eat with cutlery from Liberty, an American factory that became one of the most important in the world but whom the effect of globalisation left with 40 people.  The napkins come from a textile factory in Alcoy, Alicante and their fabric design was chosen carefully together with the coffee shop owners.  For the lighting atmosphere are the Flos lamps designed by the brothers Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec responsible.

There is something about this interior which reminds me of both of Paris in the 50th and of the raw industrial mix of Berlin coffee shops.

I love the simplicity of the black and white photographs by Pablo Zamora, simply pinned to the walls without frames. This simplicity attributes to a relaxed non urban formal flare, makes me want to sit there for hours, daydreaming about different cultures, places and times. I also love the „Love Bench“ – English wooden romantic benches making it possible sitting together with loved one.

This place is on my list for the next time I will visit Madrid. I would love to dig deeper into the story behind this place.

What are your favourite coffee shops and what makes a your favourite coffee shop into a special place?

DE:

La Vaquería Montañesa in Madrid.
