Many of us are longing for the more mindful, environmentally friendly lifestyle. One thing for sure, it is a process. It’s quite unlikely that from one day to another, we become vegan, stop flying with airplanes, buy only second hand clothes and home objects and resell them again after a while, use only natural ingredients for cosmetics and cleaning.
Sustainable living it’s a path we take, made of small steps, small changes in our lifestyle. Its doesn’t need to be a suffering compromise but rather something we feel and celebrate in our daily life. It can begin with slowing down and just thinking about the things we surround ourselves and consume in daily life. We can ask ourselves – where do they come from, we can think about the animals, nature and people who are involved in providing us those objects. Just slowing down and observing mindfully can already sparkle a wish of changing our daily habits to live in a more sustainable way.
To avoid the overwhelm of all that which is involved in making a switch to a more sustainable living we can take one aspect of our life for a period of time and see what small steps and changes we can make.
HOW STEAMING AND SUSTAINABLE GARMENT CARE CAN IMPROVE OUR LIFESTYLES
One of the first steps I took on my sustainable lifestyle journey was the dedication to buy less clothes and to take care of them well, so that they can last longer. Instead of throwing a blouse, a dress, T- Shirt or jeans in the washing after it does not look fresh I chose to spray it with a good bacteria spray, hang it outside in the fresh air and steam it.
Not only this method contributes to the longevity of the clothes and less washing, it saves me tons of time. With three portable items that I can take with me even on travels, I can renew the clothes to look and feel like brand new within just a few minutes. These items are a steamer, fabric shaver and a good bacteria garment spray. I discovered all of them during my travels in Stockholm. It’s so nice to see that several brands dedicated themselves to turn the sustainable garment care into fun and aesthetic mater. As I met with the designers and the minds behind these tools we spoke about the challenges and rewards of inspiring people to celebrate sustainable living in daily life. Since my return, this method became integrated in my daily life and I absolutely love it.
